It was pretty easy getting to Cancun. We left early for the airport and security was very quick, which left us plenty of time to hang out at the airport. And once we got to Cancun, things were quick and we got our luggage and found our driver from the hotel after just a few minute search. Once we got to the hotel, we had fun taking in the awesome view! Edison also had to check out the TV, and even though all the cartoon channels were in Spanish, he didn't seem to care. =)
Our first dinner in Cancun was at the American restarant on property. (Very similar to Champps.) I think we ended up eating here at least once a day during our stay. They didn't have grilled cheese, but Edison loved the grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich! A few days into the trip, they knew our drink and Edison's order by heart. =)
We headed to the ocean our first night and had fun playing in the waves. They were fairly calm and we stayed until it started to get dark. There was a huge spotlight that lit up the pool and part of the beach area that also shone on our patio. We had fun taking some shadow pictures outside. =)
The next day we started out at the pool. Edison didn't really like it much at first, because it was a little deep, but once we got him some goggles and he had boats to play with, he liked visiting more. We also played catch and frisbee. Brian and I got a lot of reading done while Edison swam, too! I think we each finished 2 books, plus I got a lot of knitting done while relaxing in the room. (I was not brave enough to take it to the pool or beach!)
Some pictures of the hotel lobby and other areas. It was a very beautiful place!
Edison loved looking out "his" window, which made me a little nervous. Here he is saying hi to me while I was on the patio. =)
Edison really knew how to relax!!
More time on the beach. I think the waves were a little rougher this day, but Edison still had a great time!
One morning, the boys were still asleep, so I went down for a walk on the beach. It was very peaceful and not too crowded. I loved just strolling up and down the beach, listening to the waves.
We decided to take a little walk off property to a small mall that was about a mile down the road. On the way, we stopped to get a geocache! We saw a huge iguana (or some kind of lizard) which was neat. Brian looked for one cache, didn't find it (but there was someone really close by that we didn't want to alarm) and so we tried the next one. He found it! We walked around the mall for a little bit and stopped at Burger King for lunch. That was amusing since we never go to Burger King here. =) We took the bus back to the hotel, which was an adventure. Those things go fast and the drivers are a little crazy!
At the beach again! Another rough wave day. They made me a little nervous, so Brian took Edison out farther than I wanted to go. They had a blast!
Someone (not us!) built a race car in the sand, so Edison wanted to test it out. It was very cool!
A little ice cream after a fun day!
More fun waves! Edison was a real trooper, even after getting smacked around a few times. We had to keep reminding him not to go in too far, he had no fear! =)
Night swimming!
Edison's favorite breakfast, chocolate frosted flakes with marshmallows!
The only storm that came in while we were there. It looked scary, but the rain only lasted about 20 minutes, and there was just a little thunder. We watched it pass over, then we headed to the pool for a while. It ended up raining a little more while we were at the pool, but that didn't last long either.
We ventured out on the bus again to head to the bigger mall, La Isla. We had lunch at Hooters, where Edison finally got grilled cheese! =) Then we walked over to the Interactive Aquarium and Edison and I did a dolphin encounter. We also enjoyed seeing all the other aquatic creatures at the aquarium. Edison got a new stuffed dolphin to add to his collection and Brian took some great pictures of us playing with the dolphins. It was an unforgettable experience!
This is a turtle egg rescue area that was near the beach. On our first night there, Brian called me out to the balcony and said there was a turtle laying eggs on the beach. We watched it digging in the sand. A hotel worker marked the area and by the next morning, the eggs were moved to the protected area. We thought the sign was amusing! =)
It was nice to get some family pictures taken on the beach by a nice lady! =)
Edison wanted to be buried in the sand. The first time he was sitting crosslegged, the next time he wanted to lay down. It was hard work! =)
One of my favorites!
On our last day in Cancun, we had a very lazy day. We spent time just relaxing in the room, ordering room service, then heading to the beach and pool later on in the day. We were all tired and ready to go home, even though we had so much fun. It was a wonderful vacation!!
Edison drew a picture of Kramer in the sand and wrote, "We miss you!" It was very sweet!
So much fun!!!!
